Special Types Of Aquarium Lights
July 23, 2010 11:51 am Home and FamilyVisit the nearest pet shop with aquarium supplies and you’ll probably find dozens of types of aquarium lights on their shelves. So how do you know which one to choose? Typically, lower intensity lighting is suitable for smaller tanks, while higher intensity lighting is best for large or deep tanks. Here are some information on some of the special types of aquarium lights you can get for your tank:
Actinic lights
While most other bulbs, such as fluorescents and incandescents, can be measured using the Kelvin scale, actinic lights are measured in nanometers. Most of the actinic lights that you will find are great for large or deep aquariums, because they produce high intensity light in the blue and near-ultraviolet range.
Lunar lights
Want to give your aquatic friends a night light? Lunar lights are the perfect answer. Mimicking moonlight, these bluish white lights aren’t very luminous, but they are great for simulating lunar cycles.
