Side Effects Of A Phlebotomy

6:51 am Health

Having a phlebotomy is very low risk, and there usually are no side effects. There is minor discomfort initially with the insertion of the needles, but this is minor. This may cause some people to feel light headed, sick, or sweaty. Fortunately your Phlebotomy Assistant is there to help you through the process.

After the phlebotomy certain people will experience dizziness and a fatigue. These feelings can last a few days, but rarely more than a week. Your iron stores may become depleted if multiple phlebotomy’s are performed. Iron deficiency should be avoided at all costs. Your physician will monitor your iron levels and may prescribe an iron supplement in pill form. If you suffer from serious side effects of oral iron supplement tablets or pills, replacement with iron that is liquid form may be necessary.
