July 29, 2010 1:15 pm Health and FitnessInterstitial Cystitis, also called as painful bladder syndrome is a disease that causes the patient’s bladder to get inflamed and results in frequent urination and pain in the bladder and pelvis region. The exact reason for this disease is not known, though there are some factors like allergy, autoimmunity and hereditary that can play an important role. The inflammation may lead to ulceration of the bladder and this can cause severe pain. Since the reasons for this disease are not known yet, the doctors strive to treat only the symptoms and relieve pain. The person suffering from IC may or may not be affected by bacterial infection. This disease mainly affects women, though individuals of any age including children are also vulnerable. Persistence of this disease may cause physical damage to the bladder walls and can lead to the scarring and stiffing of the bladder.
